Arabi Facts Hub has launched its training programs in Egyptian and Arab universities, starting with an intensive training day held for students of the Faculty of Language and Media at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport in Alexandria. The event was attended by 30 students along with several faculty members.
The training program consisted of three consecutive sessions, each lasting an hour and a half, covering key areas of modern journalism: digital storytelling, fact-checking, and data journalism. The sessions incorporated a variety of training methods, including presentations, hands-on activities, and open discussions.
The training sessions were as follows:
Session 1: Digital Storytelling and Narrative Techniques
Led by investigative journalist and trainer Yasser Al-Zayyat, this session covered the fundamentals of building a journalistic story, narrative sequencing, and strategies for capturing audience attention in a digital environment.
Session 2: Fundamentals and Tools for Verifying AI-Generated Content
Delivered by investigative journalist and fact-checker Mohamed Abou Deif, the session focused on tackling fake and misleading content, with special attention to content produced by generative AI tools.
Session 3: Essential Toolkit for Data Journalists
Facilitated by data journalist and fact-checker Maha Salah Eldin, this session introduced core concepts of data journalism, the stages of producing data-driven stories, and a range of free and accessible digital tools for media students and journalists.
This training marks the beginning of a broader initiative by the Arabi Facts Hub to collaborate with Arab universities and academic institutions. The aim is to bridge the gap between academic education and contemporary journalistic practices through practical, hands-on training that equips young journalists with the tools and knowledge they need. It also serves as a roadmap for Arab faculty members to stay updated on the latest trends and practices in digital media.
